The Story Behind workish
Founded in 2021 by Taylor and Lenny, workish began when betahaus moved out of the building at the beginning of COVID. Wanting to preserve and honour the creative spirit of the space, they decided to launch a coworking space rooted in connection, with sustainability and profitability in mind.
The building itself carries a deep creative legacy. Originally home to Geyer-Werke, the oldest film processing company in Germany, it helped shape Berlin’s cinematic past. Lenny, who has a background in film, brings this history full circle. The iconic brick building was even featured in the first season of Babylon Berlin, and remains a stop on Berlin’s 1920s walking tours today.
Today, the space features distinct zones tailored to different needs:
- The Fablab | NK, developed in collaboration with 42 Berlin offers a hands-on maker space for 3D printing, woodworking, textiles and more
- The Ground Floor, a flexible, social area for freelancers and community events
- The Upper Floors, quiet zones and offices for focused work.
- Plus, a leafy garden, perfect for working outdoors or informal meetups during the warmer months
The Challenge: Building a Strong Foundation for Community First
From the very beginning, Taylor and Lenny had to move quickly. With limited funds to support such a large space, their main goal was to grow a vibrant coworking community as fast as possible. That meant they couldn’t afford to waste time on administrative tasks.
They needed a tool that could take care of the essentials such as memberships, payments, and bookings so they could focus their energy on people, not paperwork.
"Our startup phase was incredibly fast. We needed a reliable solution from day one, and Cobot was an easy choice since I already had some experience working with the platform, and it was a solid option."
The Solution: Cobot as Their Operational Backbone
Cobot empowered workish to take control of their operations while staying focused on what matters most, their creative community.
By automating repetitive tasks like member sign-ups and payments through a self-service portal, and enabling external event bookings, workish has opened up new revenue streams.
At the same time, they’ve been able to scale their creative vision. With Cobot, they efficiently manage access to their maker lab tools and are preparing to offer future booking options for other resources, like their newly set-up video studio for member projects.
"Cobot handles the tedious stuff so we can actually talk to members, host ‘Show & Tell’ nights, and keep improving the space," says Lenny.
Advice for Other Spaces Considering Cobot
"Just go for it. Cobot took care of the operational headaches so we could focus on what matters, our people."
