A farm in the heart of the city

The story of the Farm goes back to Lucas Seyhoun's idea to put a few desks in his apartment and start renting them out, back when coworking was still an underground phenomenon. When that idea proved to be wildly successful, he opened one of New York City's very first coworking spaces in a former factory in SoHo. With a heavy focus on intentional design (built with pieces of an actual barn!), top-tier amenities, and competitive pricing, The Farm has become one of New York’s most well-known coworking brands and has expanded its presence to three locations in the city.

Pandemic-related challenges

Before the pandemic, there was a steady influx of new clients who all came for roughly the smae reason and needed similar amenities. Coming out of the pandemic, there was a wider range of clients needing a wider range of services. Some clients were highly cost-sensitive, while others were in need of highly particular office features and customization. Many were used to traditional offices and needed a full-service solution.

This variety of needs meant that The Farm's team needed a highly responsive operation able to provide high-quality office management flexibly, and a tool capable of supporting their ambitions.

We owe a lot of our success to Cobot. Whatever it promises it delivers and it delivers without problems.

Providing a variety of services

The Farm Soho tackled these challenges by diversifying its revenue streams to stay flexible.

During the pandemic, they hosted med tech organizations and provided mail services. Soon, business flooded back.

Using Cobot's options for member and visitor management, they have the ability to respond rapidly to any requests that teams need to stay competitive. That means they offer hot desks, dedicated desks, private offices, and full-floor enterprise offices, as well as tapping into events, conferences, and short-term day rentals.

They are able to price competitively by avoiding unnecessary expenditures, doing tough work themselves (to build the space originally, Lucas saved money by driving a van cross country with the broken down barn and assembling it into furniture with his team), and minimizing the need for full-service staff time without cutting into their ability to deliver full-service.

Advice

Business is basically engineering. You just have to apply simple principles to everything that you do and usually, there’s an answer or a solution to everything. If you apply those, your business will grow.
